Scrabster Harbour Trust, located on the north coast of Scotland has recently built a new jetty to accommodate the new ferry to the Orkney Islands.
A tide and weather station was designed for fitting to the new jetty. The system comprised a Blacknor Technology Wave height monitor, a barometer and an anemometer. The data from the sensors was digitised and combined using the BJMT Multi IO unit. A wireless modem provided the link to the harbour masters office where the data was displayed on a PC.
BJ Marine Tech wrote custom software which displays the data in a clear, easily understood format. The data can be displayed in real time as digital displays or averaged over a time period in graphical format. The data can also be saved for later retrieval and analysis.
The data is stored in a text format which takes up minimum space on the PC hard drive. The text format is also compatible with most common spreadsheet programs.
